Position Summary
The Financial Advisor is responsible for delivering comprehensive investment and financial planning solutions to individuals and small business owners. This position focuses on assessing client needs, recommending appropriate investment and insurance products, building long-term client relationships, and supporting the growth of the Bank's Wealth Management business. The Financial Advisor also serves as a resource to licensed Investment Associates and partners with bank leadership and branch personnel.
Specific Job Functions & Responsibilities
- Assess clients' financial circumstances, goals, and risk tolerance to develop customized investment and financial planning strategies
- Recommend, sell, and service approved investment and insurance products, including fee-based advisory accounts, mutual funds, stocks, bonds, ETFs, annuities, life insurance, and long-term care insurance
- Execute market transactions accurately and provide guidance on investment product selection
- Deliver professional, courteous, and efficient client service
- Meet or exceed established sales, revenue, and profitability goals
- Develop and manage a personal book of business through bank referrals, prospecting, client servicing and various business development activities
- Build strong working relationships with branch managers, bankers, and support staff to promote effective client referrals
- Support and contribute to the implementation and growth of the Bank's Wealth Management business plan in partnership with bank leadership, including product integration and cross-selling
- Stay current on industry trends, product offerings, regulatory requirements and required broker/dealer training
- Promote West Michigan Financial Services as a trusted and competitive provider of financial products and services
- Develop and execute a personal business and marketing plan aligned with Bank objectives
- Provide training and coaching to bank personnel regarding advisor services and referral processes
- Complete all required annual Bank training
- Follow all applicable federal and state regulations and related internal policies and procedures
- Participate in community and volunteer activities to enhance market visibility
Required Skills / Abilities
- Strong knowledge of investment products, insurance solutions, and financial planning concepts
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills
- Proven ability to develop client relationships and grow a book of business
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a bank-based team environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and CRM or Bank-supported systems
- High level of professionalism, adaptability, and ethical judgment
Education / Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
- Five or more years of experience in investment advisory, financial planning, or wealth management within a bank or financial services environment preferred
- Demonstrated success providing investment guidance and achieving sales results while maintaining high ethical and compliance standards
- Experience working within a bank referral and partnership model preferred
- Advanced credentials such as MBA, CFP®, CHFC®, or CHLU® preferred
- Active FINRA Series 7 and 66, or Series 7, 63, and 65 required
- Active State Life, Accident, and Health insurance licenses required
