Job Description
This team specifically deals with how data gets from point A to point B. "Did we send X number of bytes from point A to point B correctly?" Working on a Mesh network. Along the way they run into Linux, RTOS, and other devices. They need extensive networking knowledge to exceed. Testing communication devices, all the protocols are important. They work with 7 layer protocols. Gas meters, water meters mostly. Some devices with RF and cellular but for the most part manual testing. They deal with the backbone communication that carries the data. Focus is commonly with data flowing correctly, sent on time, routed correctly.
Qualifications:
- 4+ years of quality assurance engineering experience.
- Experience in both manual and automation testing.
- Hands-on knowledge of Unix/Linux.
- Familiarity with networking standards and protocols (IPv4, IPv6, TCP, UDP, DHCP).
- Proficiency in Python and/or Linux shell scripting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to consumer networking hardware (routers, switches, wireless access points).
- Previous lead role or mentoring experience
- Provide support for Device Hardware and Firmware
- Provide support for manufacturing teams as issues arise that either affects the quality or result in stop-ship scenarios
- Represent Support as appropriate in CAPA (Corrective Action, Preventative Action) meetings
- Provide in-depth root cause analysis of customer issues, accurately documenting reasons for failures and appropriate resolutions
- Interface with Product Management, Core Engineering, Technical Management Office, and other internal teams to drive quality improvements
- Support and adhere to the Company's Code of Conduct and Ethics Policy
- Perform other duties as assigned or required
They do what they call "gray box testing"
- Implementation of solutions (use development process, have projects implemented, and work with customer feedback to tweak)
- Linux (drivers for chipsets on boards, not OS)
- Networking at head end side- TCP IP - debug, troubleshoot, wire sharp required
- Load controls, radio code, radio communication firmware, embedded radio. CAN bus, communications
- Protocols on a communication device to the head end are a plus
- Assembly language a plus
- Exposure to real-time OS (tasking, setting things up round robin loop, creating resources in that space) a plus
- Agile/SCRUM (stand up, work items, blockers, sprints) a plus
- Buildroot a plus
- Yocto a plus
- Device-to-device communication
- Hardware - worked (not just programming) on devices - phones, embedded devices, raspberry pies (write an app and load it onto the device)
- Scripting embedded Linux OS - can use Python.
