Position Description
The Town of Marana is seeking Fitness Instructors to work in the Parks and Recreation Department. This short-term temporary position is an exciting opportunity for a fitness professional interested in inspiring and engaging the community in health and wellness at the Marana Aquatics and Recreation Center.
Pursuant to the Marana Town Code, Sections 3-1-2(D) and 3-1-3(B), and the current Salary Schedule implemented by the Town Manager, the position of Fitness Instructor is defined as a Temporary position. Temporary positions are at-will employees and employment may be terminated upon the will of the employer or employee at any time with or without cause.
Schedule: This position works a variable schedule based on operational needs, for up to 19 hours per week. Classes will likely take place in early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends.
Duration: Temporary Summer season role; extension possible based on performance and business needs into next season.
- Summer Season- March 1 – July 31
- Fall Season- August 1 – November 30
- Winter Season- December 1 – February 28
Hiring Rate:
Level 1 = $19
Level 2 = $21
Level 3 = $23
Level 4 = $25
At least one (1) certification and a minimum of four (4) points are required to meet the minimum qualifications for this role at a Level 1 pay rate. View the Fitness Instructor Hourly Pay PDF for level details and associated hourly rates.
Examples Of Duties
- Teaches scheduled classes and instructs patrons on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles.
- Prepares appropriate equipment, music, and handouts for each class.
- Assists patrons, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for members and class participants.
- Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to.
- Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalency plus six months of additional education or training
- Over six months' experience as a fitness instructor, personal trainer, or in a directly related field.
- Fitness instructor certification
- First Aid, CPR, and AED Certifications
An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills & abilities to successfully perform essential functions may be considered.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid Arizona Driver License
- Must complete a pre-employment physical and pass a 25-pound lift test
- Ability to pass both the Town of Marana background check and a motor vehicle records check
- Must pass fingerprint clearance background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional specialty/certifications are preferred.
