A top client is currently searching for an experienced, hybrid-based Grant Accounting Manager in Chicago, IL, for their Not-for-Profit division.As the Grant Accounting Manager, you will manage the financial oversight of federal and state grants within the Health and Human Services domain. This role is critical to ensuring compliance with the Illinois GATA framework,accurate vouchering, and timely reporting for grants administered in Chicago and across Illinois.
Job Duties:
• Maintain financial records for all federal and state grants, ensuring compliance with GATA, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), and agency-specific requirements.
- Prepare and submit vouchers and reimbursement requests in accordance with grantor timelines and formats.
- Monitor grant expenditures and ensure alignment with approved budgets and allowable costs.
- Assist in the development and review of grant budgets, amendments, and cost allocations.
Direct Client Services (80-90%)
• Serves as primary or secondary point of contact for complex client accounting needs.
• Oversees the preparation and review of financial statements, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP and funder guidelines.
• Supports the accounts receivable and accounts payable functions, ensuring proper coding, collections, payment processing, and reporting.
• Supports the development of comprehensive organizational and grant budgets in collaboration with senior accounting staff and clients.
• Provides strategic financial insights and recommendations to clients based on in-depth analysis of financial data and key performance indicators.
• Leads the annual audit preparation for assigned clients, coordinating with auditors and ensuring the accuracy of financial documentation.
• Ensures client compliance with all relevant financial regulations, including federal, state, and local funding requirements.
• Manages the implementation and monitoring of internal controls to safeguard client assets and prevent fraud.
• Evaluates and enhances financial processes and procedures for clients, leveraging technology and best practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
• Supports the adoption of cost-saving measures and revenue generation strategies,
including the identification of new funding opportunities.
• Provides advanced technical accounting support, including guidance on revenue recognition, current and/or pending Accounting Standards Updates (ASU's), and grant compliance such as but not limited to 2 CFR 200 compliance, as applicable.
• Delivers financial presentations to Client Leadership.
• Fosters strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders at each client organization, serving as a trusted financial advisor.
• Addresses complex client concerns and ensures timely and effective resolution.
Supervisory Responsibilities and Other Duties (10-20%):
• Oversees team deliverables.
• Manages direct reports and provides mentoring, training, and professional
development.
• Reviews team performance and provides constructive feedback and signoff on individual
development plans.
• Other duties as requested.
Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor's degree in accounting, ability to prioritize tasks, excellent interpersonal skills, advanced Excel skills, 2+ years of industry-specific experience, business acumen, and ability to communicate with senior management/executives.
Industry Specific Matters (Required):
• Industry Experience: (HHS) Health and Human Services organizations, with a preference for experience with housing, mental health, or general human service organizations.
• Grant Experience: federal grant administration/management experience, State of Illinois grant administration / GATA experience.

Pay Range
$80,000.00 Annually to $110,000.00 Annually
