Healthcare Billing Specialist

Work Model: 100% Remote

Compensation: $35/HR

Schedule: Standard business hours

Type: 12-month contract-to-hire

Overview

We're looking for a detail-oriented Healthcare Billing Specialist to support billing operations for a growing block of business within an ACA marketplace / individual health coverage environment. This role partners closely with external vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure member payments are posted accurately, reconciliations are clean, and payment discrepancies are resolved quickly.

You'll join a team supporting a modern health coverage model where employers provide a set contribution and employees select individual market plans (often referred to as ICHRA). If you enjoy troubleshooting, reconciling data, and working cross-functionally with vendors, this is a strong fit.

What You'll Do

  • Support member payment processing, including payment posting and follow-up on discrepancies.

  • Perform reconciliations (cash application/recon to bank activity and internal systems).

  • Partner with external vendors on a weekly cadence (calls/working sessions) to review files, payment activity, and open issues.

  • Track, investigate, and resolve billing/payment issues and data mismatches using strong attention to detail.

  • Maintain and validate billing-related data (including rates and setup details) to support accurate invoicing and timely remittances.

  • Build and maintain Excel-based tracking tools to monitor payment activity and reconciliation results.

  • Create ad hoc reports/queries and support audit requests as needed.

  • Support UAT/testing for vendor changes and scheduled system releases (identify issues before production).

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in billing, finance operations, healthcare operations, or similar analytical/payment support work

  • Bachelor's degree (or an additional 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree)

  • Experience with:

  • Data entry with high accuracy

  • Member payments

  • Payment posting

  • Reconciliation

  • Intermediate to strong Excel skills (comfortable working in spreadsheets daily)

  • Strong written/verbal communication and comfort working with vendors and internal partners

Nice to Have

  • Experience with EDI 820 payment files

  • Exposure to healthcare enrollment/billing operations in an ACA/individual market setting

  • Experience supporting vendor integrations or file-based payment workflows
