Description
Are you an experienced Electrical Engineer with expertise in Instrumentation & Control (I&C) systems? Join our team at the Brunswick Nuclear Plant and contribute to impactful engineering projects in a nuclear environment.
This role involves leading and supporting design engineering efforts for electrical and I&C projects, including digital and software-focused designs. The ideal candidate will have experience in nuclear utility engineering, with a strong understanding of modification engineering processes and familiarity with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive design packages, including conceptual designs, specifications, and calculations.
- Act as the Lead Technical and/or Responsible Engineer for assigned projects and support other project teams as needed.
- Evaluate alternatives, provide technical recommendations, and offer implementation support during project execution.
- Design and review major digital control system replacements, software evaluations, instrument upgrades, and control circuits.
- Ensure digital designs comply with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) cyber security regulations.
- Coordinate design efforts with vendors, architect-engineers (AEs), and internal teams.
- Develop and review setpoints, test plans, and licensing requirements for digital and software modifications.
- Obtain qualifications for a Modification Engineer under Duke Energy standards, with prior qualifications from other utilities as an acceptable alternative.
- Exhibit technical judgment and provide guidance to project teams.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 2 years of engineering experience in the nuclear industry.
- Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear facility (includes General Employee Training, Radiation Worker Training, Security Clearance checks, and Fitness for Duty compliance).
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in researching engineering/design issues, evaluating alternatives, and preparing recommendations.
- Collaborative team player with strong problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Registration/Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
- Experience with digital hardware/software modifications.
- Knowledge of 10CFR73.54 Cyber Security Requirements and nuclear-specific licensing standards.
- Experience in 10CFR50.59 evaluations for nuclear facility modifications.
- Proven ability to develop test plans for digital/software modifications.
- Experience in nuclear operations or direct interaction with Operations departments.
