About The Position
Performs intermediate advanced human support work involving determining the eligibility of applicants/recipients to receive assistance under social service income maintenance programs, preparing and maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Income Maintenance Supervisor.
Job Duties
- Interviews applicants for the Public Assistance programs and determines eligibility using the state NC Fast System.
- Verifies eligibility factors such as income, residency, ownership of property, shelter expenses and medical expenses to provide recipients of public assistance programs /benefits in a timely and accurate manner.
- Completes budget to determine eligibility for programs.
- Explains programs to applicants and to the public.
- Completes Food and Nutrition reviews and Medicaid reviews as assigned.
- Completes applications and recertifications as assigned.
- Coordinates with other agencies and organizations such as hospitals, health departments and child support.
- Maintaining statistical data and providing other assistance to clients through referrals.
- Performs other assigned duties.
Position Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public social service organizations.
- Thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the processing and/or review of applications for income maintenance programs.
- Thorough knowledge in the use of standard office equipment and associated software (e.g. NC FAST, NC TRACKS, EIS, EBT Edge, OVS, and EPICS);
- General knowledge in preparing reports and other types of correspondence.
- Ability to analyze facts and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions.
- Ability to communicate ideas effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to make arithmetic computations; ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
- Ability to work well in stressful situations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, associates, and the general public.
Education, Experience and Supplemental Information
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Moderate experience in related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Valid driver's license.
Complete NC Fast training within six months of hire.
