Description
The Solon Service Department is accepting applications for full-time Laborers. This position performs general unskilled manual work, and related work, as required. This involves operating all City equipment such as various trucks including sewer trucks, automated rubbish and recycling trucks, brush chipper, leaf loaders, snow and ice equipment and trucks, landscape equipment, and other various equipment and vehicles relating to the job. The duties require the ability to do heavy physical labor efficiently. A laborer works under the immediate supervision of the Division Manager who lays out the details of an assignment, checks the work in progress and upon completion.
This position's primary responsibilities include performing various maintenance and labor related duties in the Solid Waste/Streets/Drainage Division, throughout the city, as assigned by the Division Manager, performing various duties related to snow and ice (i.e.de-icing/anti-icing and plowing activities), and carrying out various duties related to fall leaf collection activities.
The following are the minimum qualifications required to apply for the Laborer position:
- Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalency certification
- Must possess, in good standing, a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License/Temporary Permit
- Employee must have good verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in heavy labor is preferred
This is a Civil Service position, a member of a the bargaining unit (City of Solon Service Department Union, LLC), and offers a starting pay rate of $26.8938/hour for non-CDL applicants and $27.4428/hour for CDL applicants. City benefits include medical, prescription, dental, and vision. Additional benefits include membership of the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System, life insurance, vacation, sick leave accruals, and select paid holidays.
