Job Summary
This position performs clerical and customer service duties in support of the operations, programs and services of a public library in the Borough library system.
Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness and Teamwork.
This position is located at the Talkeetna Library.

Minimum Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent.
One year of experience in a similar position, sufficient to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position. Preferred experience includes: library experience and/or customer service experience. The ideal candidate should have good people skills and be familiar with common business machines and computer operations. Familiarity with developing and leading programs for toddlers, preschool, elementary, middle, high school, and/or adults is a plus.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check and physical.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assists patrons at the circulation desk; checks materials in and out; places holds on materials; collects monies for copies, faxes, fines, and lost or damaged items; issues library cards; assists patrons in locating materials in the collection.
- Provides assistance to patrons in the use of library technology; assists patrons in the use of computerized databases.
- Receives and processes new materials; appends barcodes, spine labels, identification stamps, and protective covers; mends items in need of repair.
- Shelves books; rearranges shelves and displays.
- Enters statistical information regarding library operations.
- Opens and closes the library.
- Sorts donations.
- Implements or assists in the implementation of library programs for children, youth and adults as assigned; coordinates publicity for programs.
- Performs light custodial duties.
- Issues Borough and State of Alaska permits as requested.
- Performs basic clerical duties.
- Performs related duties.
Temporary and Thousand Hour (1000) employees for the Mat-Su Borough do not receive a benefits package. Following is a brief description of the only benefit provided to this class of employee.
Alaska Supplemental Benefits System:
The Supplemental Benefits System (SBS) is in lieu of Social Security and is mandatory. An employee contributes at 6.13% of gross wages, matched by the Borough (6.13%), on the present wage base of $176,100.

I understand that the schedule for this position will vary based on operational needs, and the hours will be limited to less than 30 per week and 1,000 per 12-month period. I further understand that this is an on-call position with no benefits and no guaranteed hours.
