JOB SUMMARY

The Loan Assistant plays a pivotal role in supporting Loan Officers by actively participating in tasks associated with the preparation, disbursement, and oversight of the loan officer's customer relationships, loans, and deposits. The Loan Assist will be responsible for cultivating positive customer interactions, ensuring meticulous documentation and data entry, and performing essential administrative support as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides superior customer service by answering customer questions, investigates and corrects errors, and resolves problems or other issues.
  • Assist loan officers in daily operations.
    • Manage loan exceptions and renewals, including securing applicable documents or information as required.
    • Secure title work, appraisals, flood certification, certificate of good standing, corporate articles, lien searches, credit reports, and other documentation as necessary to prepare a loan for closing.
    • Handle post-closing loan work such as disbursing loan proceeds, paying invoices, filing security documents, preparing loan for book, etc.
    • Handle and process loan payments, loan draws, and other routine loan activities.
    • Type routine letters, maintain and manage files, copy, and fax documents.
  • Serve as the loan officer's liaison with the Banks' Credit Administration Team regarding all loan related matters.
  • Operate bank computer to process account activity, determine balances, and resolve problems within given authority.
  • Answer telephones as needed and direct callers to proper Bank personnel.
  • Help in the cross-training of less experienced branch personnel.
  • Assure compliance with all Bank policies and procedures and all applicable state and federal banking laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & RELATED EXPERIENCE

  • A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • An associate degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Prior experience in financial institution operations, sales, or customer service is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Intermediate knowledge and training in branch operation activities, terminology, and products and services relating to retail and commercial account customers.
  • Basic knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, and other Bank operational policies.
  • Skilled in computer terminal and personal computer operation, host computer system, word processing, spreadsheet, and accounting opening software programs.
  • Basic knowledge of general office practices.
  • Basic math skills: calculate interest and balance accounts; add, subtract, multiple, and divide in all units of measure; use whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors, count currency, coin, and negotiable instruments in a timely manner.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, interpret documents, understand procedures, draft reports and correspondence, and speak clearly to customers and employees.
  • Ability to deal with difficult problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
  • Exceptional customer service and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Attention to detail with high degree of accuracy.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES AND INTERACTIONS WITH OTHERS

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. However, the role will be expected to interact daily with management, coworkers, and customers.
