530-Grounds Maintenance - 5248-530 Lead Land Grounds

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision directs and participates in the planting and maintenance for an assigned section; supervision is exercised over unskilled and semi-skilled personnel; and performs related work as required. Work involves regular contact with other employees and residents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Coordinates through the Foreman daily assignments and supervises; assigns and schedules planting, cultivating, fertilizing, watering of lawns, shrubs and the minor maintenance of sprinkler systems in a designated section. Inspects completed and work in progress; enforces safety procedures and policies as needed.

Supervises and participates in operating riding mowers, gas trimmers, vacuums, sod cutters, hand held spray equipment and other grounds maintenance equipment.

Regular attendance required. All duties performed on-site for the Community.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Follows up on assigned written resident complaint requests, corrects problems, discusses with residents or refers more complex resident requests to a supervisor and notes disposition.

Maintains written records. May be required to drive crew carrier from Service Center to assigned work area.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

Truck, utility vehicles, crew carrier, mowers, gas trimmers, vacuums, sod cutters, hand-held

spray equipment, garden hand tools.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to dust, equipment fumes

and normal outdoor elements.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school and considerable experience in gardening including some work with sprinkler systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience which produces the following:

  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job.
  • Knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with the

assigned equipment and operations.

  • Knowledge of design, planting and maintenance practices and procedures as related to

grounds and parkway systems.

  • Knowledge of the field maintenance requirements of assigned equipment.
  • Ability to perform manual work requiring physical strength and stamina appropriate to the

area of assignment.

  • Ability to read and write work-related job instructions in English.
  • Ability to communicate when necessary with others in English and Spanish.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment appropriate to the nature of assignment.
  • Skill in driving trucks, passenger vehicle.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid California Commercial Driver's License, Class B.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, use hands to finger and grasp, kneels, pulls, pushes, stoops, balances, climbs, crouches and lifts up to 20 lbs. The employee is required to walk for periods of up to 6 hours. Occasionally works on ladders up to 8 feet and lifts and carries up to 50 lbs.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Reading, problem solving, training, verbal and written communication, customer contact.
