Maintenance Mechanic
Friends of the High Line is hiring for a Maintenance Mechanic Position in Greenwich Village, New York City. Base pay starts at $30/hr.
The Maintenance Technician (Mechanic) is a full-time, year-round employee of Friends of the High Line. As a member of the Facilities team, the Maintenance Technician (Mechanic) will report to the Director of Facilities and Maintenance and will play a key role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the High Line's unique infrastructural elements, including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and pump systems, which consists of the Park and a 4-story commercial building. This position will also be responsible for maintaining the Highline's machinery and gas/electric vehicles fleet.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- 3 – 5 years of work experience as an automotive/diesel mechanic
- Demonstrated ability to perform a wide variety of maintenance tasks such as plumbing and electrical.
- Ability to use ladders, scaffolding, and/or a scissor lift while performing job duties
- Familiar with power tools, small motorized equipment, and vehicles
- Able to use technology for work order system through iPad or PC
- Able to work alone and in groups
- Can work outdoors in all weather conditions, sometimes for extended periods of time
- Acquire required OSHA, and FDNY certificates of fitness
- Interacts well with staff, volunteers, and the public in a highly-visited public space
- Good communication skills and ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Valid New York State driver's license
