Reliability Specialist
Job Type: Full-Time
FLSA: Salary Exempt
Schedule: Monday to Friday (Day shift) may occasionally require evenings, weekends, and holidays supporting the plant production schedule.
Location: South Bend, Indiana and Nevada, Iowa
Travel: 20%
Requirements:
- 4 Year Engineering Degree or 2+ years relevant experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in an industrial setting
- Ability to clearly document inspections, work orders, maintenance plans, and incident investigations.
- Prepare reports, summaries, and recommendations for reliability, safety, and project activities.
- Record project progress and technical findings in a concise and professional manner.
- Ability to work collaboratively with planners/schedulers, operations, and other engineers to execute inspections, projects, and reliability initiatives.
- Flexibility to support colleagues while also taking initiative when leading tasks or small projects.
- Strong dedication to safety, compliance, and plant operational standards.
Physical Demands:
- Must wear and maintain company required Personal Protective Equipment including, but not limited to: FR pants/ long-sleeve shirt, safety glasses, hard hat, safety-toe boots, hearing protection, and gloves
- Physically able to perform the following job essential functions, inclusive of but not limited to: crouching, kneeling, bending, walking long distances, lifting/pushing/pulling/carrying up to 50 pounds, work at heights, continuous work in confined spaces, ascend/ descend/ work from: stairs/ladders/scaffolding.
- Must have the ability to work continuously in an environment inclusive of but not limited to: dust, loud noise(s), walk on uneven or slippery surfaces, outdoors, heat/cold, poorly illuminated areas.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate reliability planning, scheduling, and work execution activities, including:
- Working with the Reliability Planner/Scheduler to true up the critical reliability schedule and planning priority list for the assigned area
- Utilizing the reliability workflow process for small outage planning
- Supporting large outage planning activities
- Reviewing high-priority work with Shift Leads to determine execution strategy and priority
- Reviewing and supporting planned work orders that require troubleshooting
- Working with Operations to ensure LOTO, MOC, and process plans are available prior to work order execution
- Working with the Planner/Scheduler in the development of work packages that follow recommended practices
Develop and maintain inspections, lists, and schedules, including:
- Critical reliability list
- Rotating equipment list, including planned vibration route checks and analysis
- Vibration data
- Lubrication of motors, bearings, and equipment
- Scheduled and required boiler inspections (Boilers & Burners)
- Rotating inspection schedules for pressure relief devices
- Annual SIS safety interlock testing schedules
- Instrument mechanical integrity programs in coordination with E&I, including safety interlock checks and ongoing instrument calibration checks
Support testing, inspection, auditing, and repair activities for safety and protection systems, including:
- Fire safety systems
- Grounding systems, lightning protection, and cathodic/anodic protection systems
- Inerting system integrity
- Spill control and containment systems
- Dust control systems (baghouses)
- Explosion/blast panels
- Site alarming, backup power, and camera systems
Develop, manage, and analyze mechanical integrity programs for plant assets, including:
- Vessel inspections for floating roof, pressure vessels, and non-pressure vessels, with rotating and risk-based inspection schedules and required frequencies
- Inspection and repair programs for critical piping systems and components
- Analysis of equipment and piping inspection data, including remaining life calculations
- Application of construction and inspection codes, including API-510, API-570, API-650, ASME Section VIII, and ASME B31.1 and B31.3
Provide process safety, reliability, and operational support, including:
- Supporting process engineers with ongoing updates of equipment files
- Supporting creation and progression of MOC requests
- Supporting Pre startup safety review
- Participating in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) as a reliability resource
- Performing assigned incident investigations in accordance with incident investigation procedures
- Supporting improvements in shift change communication activities
Contribute to reliability improvement, troubleshooting, and project execution by:
- Supporting the Reliability Manager with KPI tracking and reporting related to reliability metrics
- Leading and assisting in Root Cause Failure Analysis
- Performing downtime tracking and Pareto analysis
- Participating in troubleshooting efforts and reporting findings with recommendations
- Executing assigned action items and meeting all deadlines
- Supporting project prioritization using project charters and spending plans
- Managing small capital projects and supporting larger capital projects as needed, following the established project process from charter through execution
- Other duties as assigned
