Salary Range - The anticipated salary for this position is $40,685 annually, which includes a comprehensive benefits package and a tuition waiver for employees and their eligible dependents. Current employees, salary will be determined in accordance with the AFSCME CBA.

This position will be working an alternative work schedule: 10-day work cycle then 4 consecutive days off (Thursday thru Sunday). The Maintenance Repairman 2 (MR 2) position plans and performs skilled work at the journeyman level in two or more trades and performs a variety of duties related to the operation, maintenance, repair, improvement, construction and alteration of campus structures, equipment, and systems comprising university buildings, facilities, and infrastructure. The work involves responding to, and resolving facility related maintenance and operations problems related to building components, equipment, and systems. This position may provide support to other skilled trades and Physical Plant departments as conditions warrant. Work includes both scheduled preventive, and corrective maintenance and repairs, along with the unscheduled and emergency repairs that occur within the work shift. This position may require work outside of normal working hours as directed by a supervisor. As a Facilities Division Employee this position is deemed "essential" and must remain or report to work when classes are delayed or cancelled due to hazardous road or weather conditions, emergency circumstances or for other reasons as determined by operational need.
Core Responsibilities:
- Perform Skilled Maintenance Work: Apply plumbing, HVAC, and electrical skills to maintain, repair, and ensure the proper operation of building systems, equipment, and fixtures based on work orders and schematics.
- Preventive Maintenance & Inspections: Conduct regular inspections and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime, enhance reliability, and extend system life.
- Operational Support & Compliance: Respond to emergency and after-hours calls, support campus events, comply with regulations and codes, and maintain accurate records using maintenance management software.
- Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with supervisors, maintain workspaces and inventory, provide system improvement recommendations, and uphold respectful communication within the campus community.
Minimum Qualifications - Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1; OR Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades. OR any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a valid driver's license by date of hire. Must obtain Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator Certification in Swimming Pool Management upon hire. All associated costs will be covered by Shippensburg University.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of the means, methods, materials, procedures, tools, and equipment appropriate to the operation area to which assigned.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved.
- Knowledge of building, fire, and life safety codes.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and diagrams.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply manufacturer's manuals and instructions to the installation and repair of equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications - Valid Pennsylvania Trade License in Plumbing, Electrical, or HVAC; or equivalent certification as required by applicable codes and regulations.
