Maintenance Technician (Temporary)
As a Maintenance Technician with the Coachella Valley Public Cemetery District, you will play a key role in preserving and enhancing our grounds and facilities. Your responsibilities will include performing maintenance and repairs on cemetery infrastructure, utilities, and equipment using a broad range of hand and power tools. You'll support the preparation of cemetery sites for headstone installation, grave opening and closing, and funeral ceremony setup. Daily tasks involve operating vehicles and construction equipment, working both indoors and outdoors, and maintaining accurate records of the work performed. Safety and attention to detail will be essential as you inspect operational areas, respond to maintenance requests, and identify hazards. You'll interact with the public, other team members, and vendors, ensuring high-quality service throughout all maintenance activities.
Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a candidate with a strong foundation in grounds and facility maintenance, who is comfortable working in a dynamic environment and frequently transitioning between office and fieldwork. The ideal individual demonstrates knowledge of best practices in weed abatement, irrigation, equipment operation, and safe handling of chemicals. They possess hands-on skills in maintenance and repairs, and are familiar with relevant laws, safety codes, and traffic control procedures. Success in this role requires the ability to communicate clearly in person and over radio or phone, organizational and recordkeeping skills, and a commitment to world-class customer service. The position demands physical agility and stamina, including the ability to walk long distances, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds (more with proper equipment). Comfort with confined spaces, machinery, and various weather conditions is important. The ideal candidate works well both independently and as part of a team, always prioritizing safety and service.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:Education: High School diploma or GED.Experience:Two (2) years of experience in construction, general maintenance, groundskeeping or in a skilled trade.
Licenses, Certifications and other Requirements: Possession of, and ability to maintain, a valid California Driver's license.

Work ScheduleThis position is temporary and as-needed, established to support operations during an employee's leave of absence and seasonal workload demands. Employment will end upon the return of the employee from leave or will not exceed 990 hours worked in a fiscal year, whichever occurs first. This position is not intended to be permanent. Temporary/extra help employees are limited in hours and duration and are not intended to qualify for retirement or other full-time benefits.

The Interview will be conducted by phone and is tentatively scheduled to begin on May 20, 2026.
- In-Person Interview Exam- Candidates who pass the Phone Interview assessment will be submitted to the hiring manager for further consideration.
