BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Duties include the performance of manual and machine-aided labor tasks; mowing grass and using different types of mowers. Additionally, this position includes the maintenance and repair of equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service. This position will communicate any needs or problems relating to the maintenance and/or repair of equipment to the Golf Superintendent, places safety as a top priority, and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses
  • Skill in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repairs
  • Knowledge of the golf course water pump station and perform visual monthly inspections
  • Knowledge of the theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines and mowing equipment
  • Ability to calculate and make detailed adjustments using gauges to ensure proper height of cut on mowing equipment
  • Ability to make blade, reel, bedknife, and relief grinding on 8 and 10 blade reels
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work
  • Ability to communicate effectively and keep business records
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to play the game of golf and understand how job performance affects the playing conditions of the golf course in order to better understand and serves the needs of the clientele
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum direct supervision

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school graduate or equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a related field; OR

Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED

A Valid Class C Texas driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record

Pesticide license or be able to acquire within nine (9) months.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND SAFETY HAZARDS

Primarily in an outdoor environment with the ability to operate indoors when needed. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold during summer and winter months.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Standard office equipment including multi-line telephone, computer, fax machine, copier, scanner, shredder, printer, etc.

Backlaps and grinds, golf course reel mowers, bedknives, and various machinery used to spin grind reels and sharpen bedknives.
