POSITION SUMMARY
The Material Handler is responsible for operating overhead cranes and forklifts, and learns proper rigging techniques.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Promote a strong quality culture throughout the company maintaining Cooper Steel's core priorities: Safety, Quality, Production
Using overhead cranes and forklifts
Read and understand list to calculate material size and length
Understand units of measure, general mathematical equations
Operate equipment / machinery and perform other job duties necessary within the shop and yard
Use grinder to clean parts
Inspect tools and equipment daily before use and maintain in good working order
Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibilities

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent
Prior experience in a similar role is preferred

OTHER SKILLS
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals; good judgment; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to work effectively with others. While performing certain duties of the job, the employee is required to squat, bend, twist, lift, pull, and reach. Lifting is required up to 75 lbs. Climbing is required up to 6 feet off the ground on a ladder or loading equipment. Must be flexible in hours worked and willing to work overtime.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position performs work in the shop with some yard setting which includes a variety of working conditions. These include the following conditions: noise level fluctuations from moderate to high, use of personal protective equipment, machine/equipment use. Position involves everyday risks or exposure to elements that require safety precautions. Position will be required to work in adverse weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, precipitation, etc.
