MECHANICAL/ELECTRICAL ENGINEER (Aircraft Environmental Control Systems)
MONTGOMERY, AL

Position Summary: Our client is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical (Electro/Mechanical) Engineer with hands-on experience in aircraft vapor cycle air conditioning / environmental control systems (ECS). The ideal candidate will support the design, development, testing, and certification of mechanical systems and their integration with aircraft platforms for fixed-wing, rotary-wing and eVTOL aircraft.

This role requires strong cross-functional collaboration with electrical, avionics, structures, and certification teams to ensure system performance, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in aerospace/aviation or marine industry.
  • Proven experience with Vapor Cycle Air Conditioning and Thermal Management Systems
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks, Windchill).
  • Some Experience with FEA and/or CFD tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of aerospace materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of aviation certification standards (e.g., 14 CFR Part 23/25/27).
  • Experience supporting STC or TC certification programs.
  • Familiarity with DO-160 and Mil-Std-810 environmental qualification standards.
  • Experience with military aviation standards (MIL-STD).
  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical & ECS Design

  • Design, analyze, and support aircraft Environmental Control Systems (ECS), including air conditioning, pressurization, ventilation, and thermal management systems.
  • Develop system layouts, ducting designs, brackets, mounting structures, and component installations.
  • Perform system performance analysis and optimization
  • Support selection and integration of compressors, heat exchangers, valves, sensors, and related components.

Analysis & Validation

  • Conduct structural and thermal analysis
  • Develop and execute test plans for ECS and avionics cooling systems.
  • Support ground and flight test activities.
  • Analyze test data and implement design improvements.

Certification & Compliance

  • Ensure designs meet applicable aviation regulations (e.g., Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)) and military ground and flight standards.
  • Support documentation for certification including compliance reports, drawings, and substantiation packages.
  • Participate in design reviews and regulatory audits.

Documentation & Project Support

  • Create and maintain engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
  • Support configuration management and change control processes.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and MRO teams.
  • Assist in supplier coordination and technical evaluations.
