Key Responsibilities

  • Monitors patient vital signs
  • Implements orders for diagnostic lab tests according to site policy and The Joint Commission and ACA standards
  • Maintains inventory of supplies
  • Assists the RN or LVN as needed in the medical unit within scope of practice
  • Maintains confidentiality of medical records
  • Documents in SOAP format all health-related encounters for patients
  • Records EKGs as directed by nurse
  • Assists physician with minor procedures
  • Maintains and cleans medical unit/equipment on a daily basis and as needed
  • Works in conjunction with the nurse to maintain daily duties required to run the clinic in an organized fashion
  • Assists with maintaining recordkeeping
  • Obtains specimens as directed and in accordance to policies and procedures within the scope of practice
  • Utilizes infection control techniques in a consistent manner
  • Attends mandatory monthly staff meetings
  • Collects data for Quality Improvement programs, as assigned.

Key Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a medical assistant program from a vocational, technical or career school
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a health care setting, preferably correctional health care
  • Maintains BCLS.
