Medical Assistant

Position: Medical Assistant

Building: Willard North Elementary/Willard Intermediate School- North

Qualifications:

Education Level: Must hold a current Certified Nursing Assistant Certification and/or a current Registered Medical Assistant Registration

Certification: Must have current CPR and AED Certification

Experience Desired: Have a sincere desire to work with others in a caring manner and exhibit excellent communication skills. Must have good organizational skills. Ability to process/maintain paperwork. Excellent computer skills and secretarial duties

General Summary: Must have a desire to provide each student the fullest opportunity to receive a quality education by assisting to minimize their absences due to illness. Create an environment that promotes the health and well-being of students and staff. Be able to respond in health related situations with appropriate treatment in a timely manner. Provide treatment for health related issues under direct supervision of designated school nurse. Effective communication between supervising Nurse, Building Principal and the Director of Health Services.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Assist nurse in maintaining health records on students
  • Maintain/Update student emergency information
  • Maintain a log of student's health room visits through SIS
  • Provide clear, accurate documentation of all health room visits
  • Assist students/staff with illness by taking temperatures, blood pressures, pulse oxygenation, respirations
  • Assist students/staff with injuries by performing first aid, as specified by the specific nurse
  • Assist Nurse with screening program
  • Administer medication as directed by supervising nurse
  • Perform medical procedures such as tube feeding, assistance to restroom/catheterization
  • Perform vision screening
  • Assist with post-surgical care on return to school
  • Provide direct communication to parents regarding health care needs of their students
  • Communicate and assist in the care of Special Needs students
  • Strictly adheres to confidentiality regarding all health related matters pertaining to the Nurse's office
  • Ability to stay on his/her feet for extended periods of time and ability to assist in lifting students
