GENERAL JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Office Specialist is a non-licensed worker who is responsible for assisting licensed therapy staff in their assigned clinical setting according to agency or clinic policies. The Medical Office Specialist works under the general supervision of P.T. Services, Inc. and works in conjunction with the assigned agency or clinic staff
SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Demonstrates Skillful Performance as a Medical Office Specialist.
Assist patients visiting the Out-Patient Office.
Follows established policies for office management routine.
Maintains office in an orderly and clean fashion.
Knowledgeable of medical terms and therapy procedures.
Assist in the Scheduling of patient appointments.
Verifies insurance and obtains needed authorizations.
Assist in collection of patient co-pays, deductibles and balances.
Assists the Clinic Director as directed.
2. Functions in an Effective Working Relationship with Supervisors, Co-Workers, Patients and Colleagues.
Greets patients in a courteous manner; responds to patients with empathy and positive interpersonal skills.
Demonstrates good rapport and cooperative working relationships with all members of the Therapy Department and interdisciplinary health team.
Demonstrates positive communication skills in all aspects of professional relationships.
Respects the confidentiality of all professional interactions.
3. Plans and Implements Time Effectively.
Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency.
Able to adjust and revise schedule with a minimum of difficulty in order to accommodate changing patient and departmental needs.
Demonstrates responsibility in completion of all assigned tasks. Completes paperwork in a timely manner according to agency and department guidelines.
Able to recognize and prioritize work responsibilities.
4. Functions Effectively in an Independent Manner; Demonstrates Initiative in Job Performance.
Performs duties in an independent manner with minimal or no direct supervision.
Recognizes and performs additional duties not directly assigned; assists others with duties in a cooperative manner.
Maintains equipment in working order; documents equipment safety checks and maintenance according to department protocol.
Offers suggestions for positive changes or recommendations within the department or in reference to the company.
5. Demonstrates Reliability in Meeting Job Expectations.
Demonstrates reliability in attendance patterns.
Provides proper notification for scheduled absences or illness time off.
Consistently is on time and ready to work at beginning of shift.
Is physically capable of performing all work related duties.
Maintains a professional appearance; adheres to agency dress code policy.
Practices infection control in everyday routines.
Does not interrupt work schedule for personal matters.
6. Functions in a Productive Manner
Completes routine procedures in the required time frame.
Utilizes time effectively, to maximize the productivity of the department and corporation.
Willingly accepts work assignment additions.
