Emergency And Communication Operations Operator/Dispatcher

Works under the supervision of the Manager Emergency & Communication Operations. The Operator/Dispatcher must determine the nature and location of calls requesting medical, public safety, fire, transporters, environmental services, or other emergency and non-emergency services, then use BIDS documentation log to document, dispatch, track and monitor appropriate response for service. Receives telephone calls, radio calls, collects information regarding non-emergencies and emergencies in progress to relay to security officers or emergency responding teams; and documents critical information to maintain the location and status of security officers, transporters, and environmental services in the field. The position must also be able to look-up on computer, patient, and staff information. Responsible for hospital overhead paging, documentation, and paging of individuals through the paging system. Required to use two-way radios and emergency communications equipment. The Communications Center is responsible for coordinating all Codes and Disaster communications.

Education, Work Experience and Licensure:

• High School Graduate or GED required.

• Must obtain CPR certification within 12 months of employment.

• Must obtain Public Safety Telecommunicator 1 certification within 12 months of employment.

• Previous experience in dispatching EMS, Fire and Law Enforcement, and basic dispatch preferred, but not required.

• Telephone operator or receptionist experience a definite advantage.

• Professional demeanor, and basic computer skills required.

• Approximately five weeks on the job training.
