Position Summary
The OSP Class A CDL Driver is responsible for safely hauling equipment, materials, and supplies to and from job sites in support of Outside Plant (OSP) construction operations. This role includes driving commercial vehicles, transporting heavy equipment, assisting with load securement, and supporting field crews as needed. They will also act as a laborer when not driving. Depending on the project, they can share their time 50% CDL / 50 %Laborer or 30% CDL / 70% Laborer. It will fluctuate depending on need and project
Position Summary
A valid Class A CDL with no restrictions, including tanker and air brake endorsements, is required.
Key Responsibilities
Driving & Transport
- Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles to transport equipment, materials, and tools to job sites.
- Haul trailers, machinery (such as mini-excavators, trenchers, HDD equipment), and construction materials.
- Ensure proper loading, balancing, and securing of all cargo according to DOT regulations.
- Inspect truck, trailer, and tie-downs before each trip.
Compliance & Safety
- Maintain full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and company safety policies.
- Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report any issues immediately.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, mileage, and delivery documentation as required by company policy.
- Follow all traffic laws, jobsite rules, and safe driving practices.
Field & Crew Support
- Assist field crews with unloading materials and moving equipment on site.
- Support site setups including placing cones, signs, and safety barriers.
- Perform general labor tasks as needed to support daily operations.
Equipment Care
- Maintain cleanliness of assigned vehicle and ensure routine servicing is kept up to date.
- Report mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly to the Supervisor or Fleet Manager.
Required Qualifications
Licenses & Endorsements
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License.
- No restrictions (must not have E, L, or Z restrictions).
- Tanker endorsement (N) required.
- Air brake endorsement required.
Experience
- 1-3 years of commercial driving experience preferred.
- Experience driving Water Trucks and Hydrovacs a plus
- Experience hauling heavy equipment or working in construction/OSP telecommunications preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of safe loading, hauling, backing, and trailer maneuvering.
- Ability to read maps, follow travel routes, and navigate to job sites.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and field crews.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50-75 lbs routinely.
- Work outdoors in a variety of weather and site conditions.
- Ability to climb, bend, and secure loads.
- Ability to safely operate on active construction sites and uneven terrain.
Work Environment
- Outdoor OSP construction sites with exposure to weather, mud, traffic, and heavy equipment.
- Regular travel between job sites required.
