Payroll Specialist

$45,000-$55,000 + annual performance bonus
Our client, is a third generation, family-owned commercial insulation contractor that has proudly served the Chicagoland area since 1940. With approximately $15M in annual revenue and a team of 50-70 employees, the company is known for its quality craftsmanship, strong customer relationships, and exceptional employee longevity.
They are seeking a Payroll Specialist to join the team as the current payroll professional prepares for retirement at year-end. This role is being brought on early to allow for a thorough training period and a seamless transition. Key Responsibilities for the Payroll Specialist
- Process weekly payroll for approximately 70 employees, including both union and non-union staff
- Handle certified payroll and contracting payroll requirements (experience preferred)
- Maintain accurate payroll records and employee documentation
- Support general data entry and HR-related recordkeeping as needed
- Assist with light Accounts Payable and billing tasks when required
- Ensure payroll accuracy, compliance, and timely processing within a construction environment
Qualifications for the Payroll Specialist
- 1-5 years of payroll experience, ideally within construction industry
- Union payroll experience is a plus, but not required
- Certified payroll and construction contracting exposure strongly preferred
- Strong attention to detail with excellent accuracy and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently in a lean, hands-on office environment
- Reliable, accountable, and proactive work style
- Strong communication skills and professional demeanor
