Personal Trainer

The Personal Trainer is responsible for providing safe, effective, and engaging fitness programming to members and guests of the Kroc Center, while also serving as a versatile team member supporting the overall operations of the facility. This position designs customized fitness plans, conducts one-on-one and group training sessions, and educates participants on exercise safety and wellness practices.

In addition, the Personal Trainer assists with general duties such as monitoring the fitness floor, maintaining cleanliness and equipment readiness, supporting community wellness events, assisting with youth and adult sports or recreation programs, and helping ensure a welcoming, mission-driven environment throughout the Kroc Center.

This role requires a professional who is passionate about health and fitness, committed to exceptional customer service, and willing to step in where needed to support the broader goals of the Kroc Center and The Salvation Army's mission of strengthening individuals in body, mind, and spirit.

Essential duties and responsibilities include developing individualized fitness programs tailored to clients' goals, abilities, and needs; conducting fitness assessments and tracking client progress over time; providing instruction on safe and effective exercise techniques, equipment usage, and injury prevention; leading one-on-one or small group training sessions and providing motivation and accountability for participants; monitoring the fitness floor to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all members and guests; assisting with general Kroc Center operations, including equipment maintenance, daily cleaning tasks, and program setup/breakdown; supporting community and wellness events, fitness challenges, and health education workshops; assisting in youth and adult sports or recreation programs as needed; collaborating with Kroc Center staff to provide excellent customer service and help connect members to a variety of programs and resources; staying current with fitness trends and maintaining required certifications; and promoting The Salvation Army's mission by modeling integrity, inclusivity, and a spirit of service in all interactions.

Knowledge, skills, abilities, and other qualifications requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent required; degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field preferred; current nationally recognized Personal Training certification (NASM, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, ISSA or relative certifications); current CPR/AED and First Aid certification; prior personal training or fitness instruction experience preferred; strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others; ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and flexibility to assist in multiple areas of the facility; commitment to the mission and values of The Salvation Army; this position will work in a fitness center environment with direct interaction with members of all ages and fitness levels; and evening, weekend, and holiday availability may be required based on client and program needs.

Certificates, licenses, registrations include a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle; must be 21 years or older; must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check to include a DOJ Livescan fingerprint.

Physical requirements include ability to demonstrate proper exercise techniques; ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis, and prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and stretching; able to grasp, push, and/or pull objects; capable of reaching overhead; must be able to lift, pull, and push up to 50-70 lbs; and ability to operate a computer.
