Phlebotomist
The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
- Understand and follow all physicians' orders accurately.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
- Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are 100% correct against the script.
- Package specimens properly for transport.
- Store specimen samples according to required temperature and protocol to maintain integrity.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.
Essential Skills
- Phlebotomy and blood draw experience.
- Proficient in specimen collection and processing.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Phlebotomy certification required in some states.
- Ability to work with butterfly needles and perform pediatric and adult draws.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
- Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Ability to work with all age groups.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 0-2 years of relevant experience.
Work Environment
This role operates in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. The position requires compliance with safety regulations and protocols to maintain specimen integrity. The environment demands attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Williamstown, NJ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
