  • Variable shifts, rotating weekends and holidays

Essential functions of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Collects blood from inpatients, outpatients, and LTC residents according to established procedures and policies, assuring optimal specimens. Includes capillary punctures and venipunctures on infants and adults, and radial arterial punctures on adults.
  • Draws blood from children, infants, newborns, and neonates, recognizing the fact that the laboratory procedures will enhance the child's well-being.
  • Properly collects timed specimens, including glucose tolerance specimens.
  • Follows up on specimens that are misplaced or unacceptable for analysis. This may involve redrawing the inpatient, call the outpatient back to the laboratory, or traveling to the patient's home or workplace.

Requirements

  • High school graduate, preferably with courses in biology and chemistry.
  • Ability to perform basic and uncomplicated venipunctures.
  • A positive attitude and evidence of excellent customer service temperament.
  • Computer knowledge and the ability to use a keyboard.
  • Certification or satisfactory completion of laboratory introductory phlebotomy course, and/or laboratory experience or medical assistant training. Other experience may be considered.
