Principal Functions: The Laboratory Phlebotomist is responsible for safe and accurate blood draws and various lab tests and procedures, maintaining WCCH laboratory operations, ensuring sanitary conditions, and assisting the public in accordance with all WCCH policies, laboratory procedures, and federal or state laws or regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Conducts and processes laboratory tests; obtains background information from patients; obtains and tests specimens, blood samples, and body fluids from patients for routine and diagnostic purposes; assists in performing hearing tests.
2. Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies, performs quality control tests on analyzers and test kits to ensure accuracy, and conducts routine instrument maintenance.
3.Inspects laboratory supply shipments for deterioration and proper handling; contacts laboratory suppliers and manufacturers as necessary.
4. Orders testing supplies and ships specimens for Indiana state influenza and lead testing.
5. Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies. orders and restocks supplies
6. Maintains sanitary lab conditions, cleans laboratory, and disinfects instruments and countertops daily.
7. Clean autoclave daily; maintains autoclave records and inventory of autoclaves supplies.
8. Maintains log of laboratory temperatures, to include: the room air, refrigerator, incubator and freezer.
9. Records and files of patient test results, maintains quality control records and equipment maintenance records, and updates Laboratory Procedural Manual.

Schedule 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday-Friday

Vacation - Sick - Personal days earned

High school diploma and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Additional required licenses and certifications include:
1. Certification or the ability to obtain and maintain a certification as a Laboratory Phlebotomist according to the American Society of Clinical Pathology requirements.
2. Certification or the ability to obtain and maintain a certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
3. Tuberculosis (TB) skin test certification.
4. Certification of the passage of the Hepatitis Series.
