Power Systems Mechanical Engineer

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Power Systems Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Electrical Department. You will play a key role in the design, optimization, and integration of mechanical components within our electrical control systems for automation projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers to analyze power requirements and equipment loads for automation projects.
  • Design and select mechanical components for power distribution systems, including switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, motor control centers (MCCs), and enclosures.
  • Perform thermal analysis and heat transfer calculations to ensure proper cooling and ventilation of electrical equipment.
  • Develop and maintain detailed mechanical drawings and 3D models of power systems layouts using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software.
  • Specify materials and finishes for enclosures and support structures, considering factors like environmental conditions and weight loads.
  • Liaise with vendors and manufacturers to select and procure appropriate mechanical components.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant mechanical codes and standards: UL1558, UL891, UL67, UL845, UL 508A.
  • Participate in the development and review of electrical control system installation procedures.
  • Conduct site surveys to assess space constraints and feasibility for power system installation.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation for projects.
  • Collaborate with the project team to ensure seamless integration of power systems with the overall automation project.
Qualifications:

What we need you to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in designing mechanical systems for power distribution applications.
  • Strong understanding of UL and CSA to design low voltage equipment.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar 3D modeling software.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes and standards relevant to power systems.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented and quality-focused.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Travel Requirements – 5 - 10% travel
