Refrigeration/HVAC - Facilities Services
To install, maintain, and repair refrigeration, heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems and components throughout UMMC.
Education and Experience Required:
High school diploma/GED and 3 years of HVAC experience.
Certifications, Licenses, or Registration required:
Valid Driver's License required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Vocational or technical training in HVAC systems preferred.
Knowledge of refrigeration, air conditioning, heating and cooling systems. Skill in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies applicable to trade. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Ability to install, operate, maintain, and repair, refrigeration, air-conditioning, and heating systems and controls. Ability to comply with safety and environmental practices and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Installs, operates, maintains and repairs various types of refrigeration and heating systems.
- Dismantles machines and removes parts for repair; Installs, adjusts or replaces worn or defective mechanisms and parts, and reassembles repaired systems according to specifications.
- Installs, inspects, maintains and operates pneumatic and digital control systems.
- Tests line, components and connections for leaks and proper adjustment; recharges units with proper refrigerant as necessary
- Mentors less experienced staff.
- Completes and documents work performed in a timely manner and maintains quality standards.
- Ensures proper care in the use of equipment and supplies; complies with applicable safety and environmental practices.
- Cleans machines using cleaning solvent, cloths, air guns, hoses, vacuum and/or other equipment.
- Lubricates or applies adhesives or other materials to machines, machine parts or other equipment.
- Operates machine shop equipment such as engine lathes, drill press, grinder, milling machine, and hydraulic press to fabricate equipment parts.

Physical and Environmental Demands Requires frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, frequent handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, frequent activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, occasional lifting and carrying more than 100 pounds, frequent climbing, occasional crawling, frequent crouching/stooping, occasional driving, frequent kneeling, frequent pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, occasional sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)
