Position Overview: We are seeking a proactive and highly analytical Salesforce Administrator to take ownership of our Salesforce instances serving the Poynter Institute and Poynter Foundation and its surrounding data ecosystem. As an organization grounded in fact-based expression and accountability, we need our internal data to reflect those same high standards. You will be the primary champion for data integrity, analytics, and user adoption across our organization.
This is a highly cross-functional role. You will work closely with our software development team to build and maintain integrations with platforms like Stripe, WooCommerce, MailChimp, OneCause and Google Analytics. Equally important, you will partner with our marketing, sales, and teaching teams to translate complex data into actionable insights, building dashboards and reports that empower them to make informed decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Salesforce Administration & Data Integrity:
- Own the overall health, architecture, and accuracy of our Salesforce instance.
- Audit existing data, identify gaps in data integrity, and implement validation rules and automated processes to ensure ongoing accuracy.
- Clean up technical debt, optimize page layouts, and streamline workflows for a better user experience.
- Identify, organize and input manual data sources when not integrated or prior to integration dates to reach accuracy
Systems Integration & Architecture:
- Lead the integration of third-party platforms, specifically Google Analytics, One Cause and Stripe, into Salesforce to track user behavior, memberships, and financial transactions.
- Maintain and monitor the uptime functionality of integrations with third party platforms (such as WooCommerce, MailChimp, Zoom, LearnDash, etc.).
- Troubleshoot and work with stakeholders on updates driven by business changes or product updates/upgrades.
- Act as the Salesforce subject matter expert (SME) when collaborating with our internal software development team, guiding them on Salesforce APIs, best practices, and limitations.
Analytics & Reporting:
- Design, build, and maintain intuitive dashboards and repeatable reports tailored to the specific needs of the marketing, sales, and teaching teams.
- Transform raw data into clear narratives, helping department heads understand conversion rates, engagement metrics, and financial trends.
Training & User Empowerment:
- Serve as the primary support and trainer for non-technical staff on report-writing and dashboard creation.
- Serves as a guide to Salesforce resources and documentation to increase Salesforce adoption and data literacy across the organization.
- Stay current with best practices, including leading edge use of AI for internal Poynter opportunities and efficiencies.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 3+ years of experience as a Salesforce Administrator, Revenue Operations Manager, or Salesforce Business Analyst.
- Certifications: Salesforce Administrator (ADM 201) certification is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proven experience integrating third-party tools (especially payment gateways like Stripe and web analytics like Google Analytics) with Salesforce, either natively, via middleware, or by collaborating with developers on custom APIs.
- Strong understanding of relational databases and data modeling.
- Experience working with Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) or Nonprofit
- Cloud is a strong plus.
Soft Skills:
- Exceptional ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- High degree of empathy, respect, and collegiality when supporting users who are learning new software.
Salary and Benefits:
The starting salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000, commensurate with experience. Poynter offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

Physical and Work Environment Requirements:
- Position requires sitting for extended periods, while at the computer and answering and placing video calls.
- When onsite, requires moving throughout the building and occasionally to outside business offices.
- Physical requirements include: ability to see and perceive colors in order to proofread, edit on paper and onscreen, and create and view graphics. Requires the ability to manipulate fingers to operate computer keyboard and mouse.
- The Salesforce Administrator will be expected to work under and meet precise deadlines. Routine interruptions and unforeseen assignments are to be expected.
- After hours deployments may require a shift in schedule as determined within the team’s schedule. There are routine deadlines, disruptive work schedules and unpredictable events.
