Join the team that keeps our community clean and moving: we're hiring dedicated Sanitation Laborers to help power daily waste and recycling collection with pride and purpose!

As a Sanitation Laborer, you'll play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness, health, and safety of our community. Working as part of a dedicated sanitation crew, you will assist in the daily collection of municipal solid waste and recyclables along established routes. This hands-on position is perfect for individuals who enjoy physical work, being outdoors, and contributing directly to the well-being of residents and neighborhoods.

You'll be responsible for lifting, emptying, and returning refuse and recycling containers, as well as ensuring that only acceptable materials are collected. The Sanitation Laborer walks alongside a moving collection truck and supports the driver and foreman by safely operating equipment and maintaining cleanliness throughout the route. Clear communication, attention to safety, and a strong work ethic are essential for success in this role.

Essential Duties:

Under the direction of the supervisor, the Laborer will

• Move on sidewalk and in streets alongside moving sanitation truck on assigned route
• Determine if trash/recycles meet the acceptable standards for collections
• Lift up various types of trash bags and containers placed on the curb or pick up location
• Empty refuse and/or recyclables and return empty containers
• Operate hydraulic levers for compressing waste and other refuse
• Notify residents of excess trash or items that cannot be collected
• Maintain cleanliness of collection route
• Wear protective gear including reflective vests and gloves, as required
• Maintain acceptable attendance and punctuality standards
• Closely follow directions to operate machinery or handle supply materials
• Perform the duties of the position in a safe manner to avoid posing a direct threat to self or others
• Exercise sound judgement when evaluating situations and making decisions
• Maintain high quality and quantity of work standards
• Understand and comply with all safety, personnel, and other policies and procedures

Schedule/Other Information
As a part-time position, the schedule for the sanitation laborer varies.

Pay Range
This is a part-time union position. The position pays $16.03 per hour.

Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work in a variety of roles and perform various tasks, as required.
