Senior Planner

Clay County - Small Towns. Big Passions.

Pay: $27.31 - $31.95

Salary: $56,805.69 - $66,465.37

The Senior Planner performs professional planning activities involving maintaining and updating the Comprehensive Plan, reviews proposed development for consistency with the Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code and conducts a variety of planning studies. The position coordinates activities with County Departments, other local governments, and State, regional and Federal agencies. The employee also represents the Department before citizen groups, State and other agencies, County committees, the Planning Commission and the Board of County Commissioners.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepares updates of the Comprehensive Plan, reviews proposed land use changes and text amendments, and reviews changes to the Land Development Code and related and/or supportive documents
  • Review proposed development plans and monitor development activity on an ongoing basis
  • Performs specialized research and analysis in areas of land use, transportation, public facility planning and financing, and other planning-related issues
  • Represents the Director in meetings and before the public
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Planning
  • Two years' professional planning experience
  • OR

  • Bachelor's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning
  • Four years' professional planning experience
  • OR

  • Bachelor's Degree in any other related field
  • Six years' professional planning experience
  • For Candidates with a Bachelor's Degree, required experience will be reduced by two years with certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners

ALL CANDIDATES

  • Experience with GIS and AutoCAD (Preferred)
  • Valid State of Florida Driver's License with clean driving history
  • Any combination of education and experience may be substituted, so long as it provides the desired skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job

Supplemental Information:

  • Ability to organize and analyze written and graphic data and to evaluate alternative solutions for consistency with existing County ordinances and policies. Requires the ability to analyze available alternatives, synthesize/negotiate a solution and make recommendations to the Department Head
  • Ability to meet and deal with the public and other stakeholders in situations which require tact, accuracy, discretion and courtesy. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and in graphic (map) form
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable State growth-management statutes
  • Solid knowledge of planning areas, i.e., zoning, long-range and master planning, environmental planning, transportation, design, GIS and economic development

Employees may be required to perform duties, including the employee's normal work function or other emergency support functions as deemed necessary by the County, as assigned before, during, and after hazardous weather or state of local emergency.
