Senior Process Safety Engineer
Refinery Health, Safety & Environment | Full-Time | Superior, WI
POSITION OVERVIEW
Our client is seeking a Senior Process Safety Engineer to lead process
safety initiatives in support of a zero-harm work environment at our
refinery. In this critical role, you will drive risk mitigation efforts
and coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders to address process
safety issues across the site. You will serve as a subject matter expert
on U.S. regulatory requirements, a champion for continuous improvement
of safety systems, and a change agent who embeds process safety
principles throughout the organization. Relocation assistance is
available for this position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure regulatory compliance with U.S. process safety requirements,
including OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119) and the EPA Risk Management
Program (RMP).
- Lead and support refinery process safety programs, providing
technical safety and engineering expertise across PHA/HAZOP, LOPA,
major accident hazard (MAH) assessments, and Management of Change
(MOC).
- Drive continuous improvement of process safety systems, workflows,
and assurance mechanisms to ensure consistent and effective program
implementation across the site.
- Serve as a change agent by embedding process safety principles
throughout the organization and influencing stakeholders at all
levels.
- Lead or support incident investigations and root cause analyses,
identifying lessons learned and implementing corrective actions to
prevent recurrence of major incidents.
- Coordinate and oversee internal, third-party, and insurance audits -
ensuring thorough gap identification, tracking, and timely closeout
of all corrective actions.
- Partner with site leadership and HSE leadership to identify and
mitigate key risks, advance safety management systems, and set,
measure, and analyze occupational and process safety performance
goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Science, or a
Safety/Environmental discipline.
- 12 or more years of experience in process engineering, technical
safety, or process safety engineering within oil and gas or
chemicals industries.
- Subject matter expertise in U.S. regulations, specifically OSHA PSM
(29 CFR 1910.119) and the EPA RMP Rule.
- In-depth familiarity with MOC, PHA/HAZOP, LOPA, and major accident
hazard (MAH) methodologies and industry good practices.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating MOC, HAZOP/PHA, and LOPA
sessions.
- Proficiency in root cause analysis methodologies and incident
investigation leadership.
- Experience in contractor safety management, safety auditing, and
emergency response.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
