Setter / Drawer
Location: Worcester, MA
Pay Rate: $25.00 per hour
Schedule: 1st Shift | 4:30 AM - 1:00 PM (30-minute lunch)
Position Summary
The Setter/Drawer II is responsible for planning, building, loading, unloading, and inspecting ceramic or abrasive products as part of the kiln firing process. This role supports production operations by ensuring products are properly configured, fired, and prepared for further processing, while adhering to manufacturing instructions and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and build kiln car configurations and stack products in specified patterns on racks, platforms, or tunnel kiln cars
- Prepare products for loading into periodic or tunnel kilns, ovens, or furnaces
- Follow manufacturing instructions using deck batts, blocks, clamps, fillers, and other materials
- Select products by burn type and firing schedule dates
- Draw finished products from kilns manually or using hoists and truck cars
- Transport products to stripping areas for visible inspection
- Perform additional related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (or equivalent experience)
- General manufacturing experience preferred
- Ability to read blueprints and work from written manufacturing instructions
- Intermediate math skills, including measuring in standard and metric units
- Experience using measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, and measuring tapes
- Basic computer skills
- Typically requires up to three (3) months of experience to become proficient and work independently
Physical Demands
- Ability to repetitively lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance
- Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and use of hands and arms
- Occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
Mental & Visual Requirements
- Close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus are required
Work Environment
- Manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts
- Occasional exposure to heat, fumes, and airborne dust
- Moderate noise levels
Safety & PPE
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required, including gloves, safety shoes, respirators, dust masks, hard hats, hearing protection, and safety glasses.
