Summary

SUMMARY : The SLH OR Transporter assists the perioperative care team in many aspects of patient care, including but not limited

to patient care assistance, care of environment, transportation of patients, supplies/equipment, specimens and blood products to,

from and within the surgical unit. Performs related duties as required.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in

this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties

listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.

Transports patients. Assists with positioning, moving, and lifting patients. Conscientiously and continuously applies the principles of

quality care provision on a daily basis. Communicates patient requests or pertinent information to surgical team. Directs family and

patient questions to physician, anesthesiologist or nursing staff.

Delivers patient specimens to appropriate areas.

Assists the perioperative nurse in providing patient comfort and privacy specific to all patient populations (i.e., pediatric, adolescent,

adult, and geriatric). Performs surgical shaves. Assists patients with elimination needs. Assists nursing staff in OR suites as requested. Holds limbs during preps. Holds patient to assist anesthesia with spinal/epidural intervention. Assist in the assembly of traction devices.

Assists the surgical team with room turnover/termination. Prepares occupied and unoccupied gurneys. Sets up, cleans, and delivers equipment to OR suites. Retrieves and cleans anesthesia equipment in OR suites between cases and upon terminal cleaning of the room. Changes circuits and suction after each case. Wipes anesthesia machine between cases. Replaces EKG leads, pulse oximeter cable and blood pressure cuff. Wipes cables off between cases. Demonstrates basic knowledge of cleaning for turnover and termination of OR rooms. (Prepares rooms for emergency and next day cases.) Sets up video equipment.

Demonstrates accuracy on the computer. Inputs charges into meditech system.

Returns clean equipment to proper location. Maintains a neat, safe, clean environment. Maintains utility room in neat and clean manner.

Restocks daily supplies. Assures stock of personal protective equipment in assigned rooms and halls.

Removes trash, linen, and used equipment from the department throughout the day. Follows housekeeping and hospital procedures. Cleans equipment, OR tables, tables, floors, horizontal and vertical surfaces, lights and kick buckets.

Accepts responsibility for following all policies, procedures and routines, and keeps updated on all required information (i.e., Policy and Procedure Manuals, Safety Manual, MSDS, EOC manual). Participates in performance improvement activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education: High School Graduate

Required Licenses/Certifications: CPR certification issued by the American Heart Association.
