Description
Sr. Production Planner
The Sr. Production Planner is responsible for end-to-end production planning for a designated facility, including ownership of scheduling, capacity planning, and material flow across all product lines, including intermodal operations. This role supports the company's largest manufacturing site and requires a high level of autonomy, strategic thinking, and cross-functional coordination.
Salary Range: $80,000 - $85,000 (based on experience).
Responsibilities
- Own the full production planning cycle for the facility, establishing production schedules to meet customer expectations while maintaining a consistent production environment
- Prepare and consolidate job documentation and instructions for shop floor activities
- Gather, analyze, plan, and manage production schedules based on capacities of equipment, material, machine, and labor
- Analyze current and backlog job orders and develop/adjust production plans and schedules accordingly
- Serve as the primary planning lead for the site, partnering with plant leadership on capacity, constraints, and long-range planning decisions
- Develop and negotiate lead times with commercial and operations teams based on customer requirements and material, labor, and machine capacities; elevate issues to master planning for regional resolution
- Monitor execution of work orders, engineering drawings, and material flow to ensure alignment with established production schedules
- Review production plans and inventory levels to identify risks and communicate required long-range capacity changes to the plant manager and master planner
- Plan and manage inventory to avoid shortages and excesses
- Review, adjust, and communicate required schedule changes to purchasing, operations, and commercial teams
- Integrate and manage planning activities for intermodal operations within the overall production plan
- Develop and document process improvements for inventory, manufacturing, and production control systems to meet business objectives
- Investigate production control problems, analyze root causes, and drive resolution of complex planning issues across functions
- Act as an escalation point for planning-related challenges and lead cross-functional problem-solving efforts
- Build and maintain strong relationships with operations and commercial teams to meet customer demand and productivity goals
- Work with materials, manufacturing, and purchasing teams to identify and resolve production planning issues
- Identify root causes of issues and develop actionable plans for long-term improvements
- Interpret and analyze data to provide actionable insights that influence plant-level decision-making and operational strategy
Requirements
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
- 7-10 years of planning experience in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to interact with all levels within the organizations, both internal and external
- High-level analytical experience
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Ability to maintain excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work in manufacturing shop floor environment
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Minimum Education Required: Bachelor's Degree in Business or equivalent job experience
