Staff Accountant

Job Title

The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.

Responsibilities include:

• Reviewing and interpreting federal legislation, rules, standards, and regulations pertaining to accounting and financial management.
• Analyzing and evaluating agency-wide accounting operations, policies, procedures, and systems for compliance with standards and internal controls.
• Designing, implementing, and assessing internal control processes and systems pertaining to agency-wide accounting and financial management activities.
• Responding to Congressional, Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), and Government Accountability Office (GAO) reports. Determining corrective actions needed. Ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
• Reviewing existing systems for revisions and recommending modifications to systems design, as necessary (Systems Modernization).
