QUALIFICATIONS:
- Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate as required by Kentucky law.
- Prior experience or education in counseling, social work, or in human services and case management is preferred.
- Two or more years' experience in the above areas is preferred.
- Having working experience with families from different ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Have knowledge of community and service providers.
- Displays ability to relate in a warm and supportive manner.
- Valid driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Liaison service between the student and the parents or between the school and the community.
- Specific program to which assigned
- Record-keeping techniques.
- Operation of a computer terminal and data entry techniques.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Research methods and report writing techniques.
- Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities.
- Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
- Child abuse and domestic violence reporting requirements.
- Technical aspects of field of specialty.
ABILITY TO:
- Coordinate assigned activities to resolve student issues or develop community programs.
- Travel to student homes and interact with parents.
- Assist with responsible duties of the Pupil Personnel Office including attendance, discipline, project home, student information systems, court services and law enforcement.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Maintain records and prepare reports.
- Operate a computer terminal.
- Prioritize and schedule work.
- Learn, apply and explain policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, requirements and restrictions.
- Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
- Work independently with little direction.
- Meet schedules and timelines.
JOB GOAL:
- To improve at-risk student attendance and academic performance.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Make home visits as necessary to support program objectives, including address verification.
- Conduct research and prepare reports specifically on attendance related phone calls.
- Provide information and referral services to appropriate community resources in health and human services.
- Help the community identify and develop resources to better serve the needs of youth in the City of Covington.
- Counsel pupils and parents individually and in groups on topics such as problem solving skills, stress reduction, conflict management, and other recognized and expressed educational needs areas.
- Fulfill case management and coordinate functions by serving as liaison between the school and community based agencies.
- Be available on weekends and evenings as needed for home visits.
- Facilitate student transition from middle school education to appropriate vocational and/or academic training for career opportunities and planning.
- Collaborate with teachers, guidance counselors and other professionals in assessing student needs and designing strategies to help individual pupils.
- May be the assigned point of contact for McKinney-Vento Homeless/Foster Care.
- Performs other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the Director of Pupil Personnel, Executive Director of Operations, and Superintendent.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Pupil Personnel
CONTRACT: 205 Days
SALARY: $211.03 - $308.69/Daily Depending on Experience (Outreach)
