Definition: Under general supervision, prepare and maintain the external areas of Substation property, and associated facilities. Provide assistance to Apprentice and Journey Substation Workers in the grounds maintenance of electrical substations and Hydro-electric plant. Perform semi-skilled work in the construction and maintenance external to electrical substations and the hydroelectric plant.
Principal Duties: • Operate a variety of equipment to maintain the external areas of Substation property,
and associated facilities; inspect tractor and mower for safe and proper operation; maintain equipment as needed, replacing fuel, fluids, and oil.
• Operate motorized carts, light duty vehicles, blowers, sweepers, trimmers, power tools, etc.

• Rake, sweep, blow and pick up, debris, paper, and trash from the external areas of Substation property.
• Maintenance will include the following: inspections of the external areas of Substation property per established standard operating procedure (SOP), collecting trash, assisting with irrigation repairs, mowing, trimming, and snow removal. Utilize independent judgment in performing grounds maintenance activities.

Working Environment: Work is performed outside most of the time, under varying and extreme weather conditions. Work includes exposure to sun, and irregular terrain, noise, dust, pollen, gases and oils, solvents and chemicals including a variety of herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers. Work requires ability to communicate and work cooperatively with employees and the public. Work requires bending, climbing, pulling, carrying (50+ lbs), kneeling, walking, and standing for significant periods of time. Reading and understand pesticide labels, material safety data sheets, and equipment manuals and ability to perform written record keeping. Incumbents are required to work schedules as needed. The candidate for this position must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to do the job.
Qualifications: Prior parks, landscape, forestry or golf course maintenance experience is preferred but not required. Completion of, or ability to complete community first aid and defensive driving training. Possession of a valid Colorado Driver License.
