Job Description

Title: Substitute Custodian Location: To Be Determined

Employment Type: On-Call / As Needed Work Days: As Assigned

FLSA: Non-Exempt Reports to: Director of Operations / Building Principal

Salary/Benefits:

$15.00 per hour

Job Summary:

The Substitute Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly school environment on an as-needed basis. This position supports daily building operations by performing routine cleaning, minor maintenance, and setup tasks to ensure a positive learning and working environment for students and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently
  • Ability to perform physical tasks related to custodial duties
  • Demonstrates reliability, punctuality, and professionalism

Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities:

  • Perform general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas
  • Empty trash and recycling receptacles and dispose of waste properly
  • Replenish supplies such as paper towels, soap, and toilet paper
  • Set up and take down furniture and equipment for school events and activities
  • Assist with minor maintenance tasks as assigned
  • Follow established safety procedures and proper use of cleaning chemicals
  • Report maintenance issues, safety concerns, or building needs to supervisor
  • Secure building areas as directed, including locking doors and checking facilities
  • Maintain a professional and cooperative working relationship with staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in a school environment
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and directions
  • Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks
  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical labor for extended periods

Working Conditions:

School environment; may require evening shifts or varied hours depending on building needs. Work involves exposure to cleaning chemicals and physical activity.

Terms of Employment:

On-call position; hours vary based on district needs.
