Summer Bus Driver
The Summer Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of children, staff, and authorized personnel to and from camp programs, field trips, and other designated professionalism while representing the Parks & Recreation Department. Essential Functions/Typical Tasks.

Operate vehicles in accordance with federal, state, and local laws as well as departmental policies.

Safely transport children and staff to camp programs, field trips, and scheduled destinations.

Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; report any maintenance or safety concerns promptly.

Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe bus environment.

Enforce safety rules and ensure proper behavior of passengers at all times. Discuss any disciplinary concerns with Day Camp Staff and Program Supervisor.

Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel, and trip logs as required.

Communicate effectively and professionally with camp staff, parents, and participants.

Support camp staff during transitions and assist as needed when not driving.

Perform related tasks as required.
Prior experience transporting children via activity or school bus or working with youth preferred, especially experience with children aged 5-12.
Must have the ability to work as a member of a team as well as the ability to interact with campers, family, and public. Strong commitment to safety and accident prevention.
Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work during the summer camp season (June-Early August; approx. 7 weeks).
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid NC Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsement required.
Current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate.
Special Requirements:
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
This position is a temporary/seasonal and subject to the maximum 1,000-hour rule per calendar year.
