Tooling Engineer | Norton Shores, MI

Salary Range: $71,000 - $110,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize tooling solutions for manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define tooling requirements and specifications.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for tooling-related issues.
  • Manage tooling projects from concept to completion, ensuring on-time and within-budget delivery.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tooling technologies and materials to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Develop and maintain tooling documentation, including CAD models, drawings, and maintenance procedures.
  • Provide technical support and training to production teams on tooling usage and best practices.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in tooling design, development, and optimization within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA) for designing and analyzing tooling.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as stamping, injection molding, casting, or machining.
  • Experience with DFM/DFA principles and their application to tooling design.
  • Knowledge of various tooling materials, heat treatments, and surface finishes.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with CAD/CAM software for mold design and manufacturing (e.g., SolidWorks, Catia, Mastercam).
  • Familiarity with various manufacturing processes beyond injection molding, such as stamping, casting, or machining.
  • Knowledge of metrology and inspection techniques for tooling validation (e.g., CMM, optical comparators).
  • Certification in a relevant area like Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or a specific tooling technology.
  • Ability to perform basic FEA simulations for mold flow analysis or structural integrity of tooling components.
