The Batavia Park District was established in 1969 through voter referendum. Since its establishment, the Park District maintains and operates approximately 400 acres, comprised of 40 sites, a skate and bike park, a unique aquatic facility, a museum and a multitude of baseball and soccer fields and tennis, pickleball and basketball courts. The Park District offers nearly 2,000 programs each year and serves roughly 95,000 participants through various recreational, arts, and environmental programs. Job Summary:
Responsible for performing a wide variety of general trades projects, including but not limited to: Basic carpentry, construction, electrical, plumbing, painting, HVAC, concrete and masonry, and equipment maintenance and repair. Assist with maintenance of small equipment and basic vehicle maintenance/repairs.
Essential Functions:
- Perform rough and finish carpentry work in the alteration, repair, remodeling, maintenance and construction of buildings and equipment.
- Assist in the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical wiring, fixtures, lighting, ballasts, panels, breakers, outlets, switches, troubleshooting circuits, bending and installing conduit and making repairs on the electrical systems of District buildings and site installations.
- Perform carpentry and construction duties including but not limited to roofing, wall and floor tile, doors and door hardware, locks, cabinets, windows, partitions, fixtures, framing, drywall, sign making, concrete form and finish, emergency board-up and all tasks necessary for preparation and completion of the work.
- Serve as point person in the absence of the Trades Crew Leader as instructed by Superintendent of Facilities & Trades.
- Assist with maintenance of small equipment such as string trimmers, chain saws, back-pack blowers, zero turn mowers and basic vehicle maintenance/repairs as needed and instructed by mechanic.
- Perform miscellaneous painting duties including but not limited to plastering, painting, staining and perform all tasks necessary for preparation and completion of the work.
- Assist in the repair and maintenance of piping systems, drinking fountains, storm and sanitary sewer systems and heating systems.
- Perform site improvements such as playground construction, borders, bleachers and fencing.
- Use machinist tools such as drills, saws, grinders and sanders to fix things.
- Drive and operate all District vehicles and equipment; perform pre-trip inspection of vehicles and equipment.
- Perform monthly facility, playground inspections.
- Perform operation duties for the District's seasonal aquatic facility to include but not limited to; preparation and close out facility & equipment, testing of water chemical levels and performing system backwash & strainer maintenance.
- On-call duty for after hour and inclement weather response.
- Perform all jobs and tasks within guidelines and rules of District's safety program.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
This position requires a high school degree or its equivalent and two years' experience in commercial maintenance work. Previous supervisory experience a plus.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of facility maintenance management, carpentry, electric, plumbing, HVAC and maintenance of small equipment.
- Knowledge of tools and equipment.
- Capability to utilize District electronic tools/software, including but not limited to: Network computers, District emails/calendar, Paycor system and cell phones.
- Ability to organize equipment, tasks and jobs.
- Valid Illinois Driver's License.
- Ability to obtain Certified Pool & Spa Operator certificate within in twelve (12) months of hire.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Requires full range of body motion including handling, lifting, and manual and finger dexterity.
- Requires frequent standing, bending and stooping for prolonged periods.
- The employee must regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
- Exposure to weather conditions, which can include cold, snow, ice, rain and extreme heat and humidity.
- May perform duties above standard elevation.
- Ability to work in confined/small spaces.
- There is exposure to grinding material and dust as well as various chemicals (i.e., fertilizers, weed killers, cleaning agents and oil fuels).
- There is exposure to loud noise for extended periods.
- Must be age 18 or older in order to operate equipment.
Scheduling, pay and benefits
Full-Time, Non-Exempt position
Hours: M-F 6:30am -2:30pm (April - October) and 7:00am-3:00pm (November - March) Due to the nature of this position it is sometimes necessary to adjust work hours to include evenings or additional days during the week.
Pay Range: $26.00 - $29.00, DOQ
