The Town of Eastham is seeking a Treasurer/Collector to play a visible leadership role with the opportunity to shape core financial operations and play a key role in the Town’s continued fiscal stability. This position offers real visibility, autonomy, and impact, and reports to Finance Director. This position is ideally full-time and onsite; however, the Town offers flexible hybrid and remote work arrangements for the right candidate.

This role is about more than numbers—it’s about trust. As Treasurer/Collector, you’ll serve as the Town’s financial anchor, overseeing revenue collections, cash and treasury management, payroll, debt service, investments, and disbursements. You’ll advise leadership, support departments, and interact with residents and businesses—bringing sound judgment, customer focus, and deep knowledge of Massachusetts municipal finance to everything you do.

This position is well suited for a Deputy or Assistant Treasurer ready to step into a leadership role with autonomy in a well-structured Finance Department.

Qualifications: The recommended qualifications include:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field
  • 5 years of professional finance experience, with 2+ years in municipal finance preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with financial management systems and accounting software
  • Working knowledge of Massachusetts municipal finance, including collections, investments, debt, and compliance
  • Judgment, professionalism, and discretion are required to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Massachusetts Treasurers/Collectors’ Association certification preferred (or the ability to obtain treasury and collection certification)
  • And, you must be bondable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage cash, investments, and debt service
  • Oversee collections and receivables
  • Administer payroll and disbursements
  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations
  • Coordinate with all finance offices, Finance Director, and auditors

Compensation and Benefits: The salary range for this position is $96,958 to $143,013 annually contingent upon experience and qualifications (with an anticipated starting salary approximating $120,000). In addition to a competitive salary, this position is eligible for: comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance; childcare stipends; employee assistance and wellness programs; participation in the Barnstable County Retirement System and generous paid time off, including vacation days, personal days, and holidays.
