Utility Worker II
We are seeking a Utility Worker II to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution and wastewater systems. This role involves fieldwork, equipment operation, and on-call responsibilities in support of essential public infrastructure. Pay: $20.98 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, locate, maintain, and repair water mains, service lines, hydrants, valves, PRVs, and meters
- Perform routine servicing and corrective maintenance on water and wastewater systems
- Locate and mark underground utilities using maps and tools
- Operate dump trucks, hydro excavators, trenching equipment (Ditch Witch), and other heavy equipment
- Load/unload materials and dig/refill trenches
- Perform routine inspections and cleaning of vehicles, tools, and equipment
- Maintain grounds and facilities as needed
- Follow all safety procedures and project SOPs
- Participate in on-call rotations and respond to call-ins as required
Basic Qualifications:
- Valid New Mexico Driver's License
- New Mexico Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1–2 years of experience in the water utility field
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of water distribution system operations and maintenance
- Experience operating heavy equipment
- Familiarity with hand and power tools
- Digital literacy (CMMS systems, mobile devices, work management software)
- New Mexico Water Supply Level 1 or Water Distribution Level 1 certification (or ability to obtain within 2 years)
Physical & Work Requirements:
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift, carry, and operate tools and equipment
- Willingness to work on-call shifts and overtime as needed
