Description

Van Driver

Provide safe transportation for district students to and from various destinations.

Conduct and document daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the assigned van including but not limited to checking fluids, air pressure gauges, temperature gauges and other systems that require daily inspections; maintain vehicle log.

Abide by the preventative maintenance program for school vans as required by PA state law and the Transportation Department.

Ensure that students enter the van safely, that they are seated appropriately and are using seat belts.

Transport students safely to and from school or other destinations as assigned by the Transportation Director while following all posted speed limits and safe driving practices.

Maintain required records including but not limited to student counts, mileage, and others as required.

Perform practice emergency evacuation drills as required.

Conduct daily fueling and cleaning of assigned van including but not limited to cleaning windows, removing trash, and cleaning floors.

Attend in-service workshops and other department meetings scheduled by the Director of Transportation.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.

Ability to work in an external environment subject to temperatures below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees

May be exposed to atmospheric conditions that include fumes and dust

Must be cooperative, congenial, and service-oriented

Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions

Ability to follow written and verbal directions

Ability to read and write

Ability to communicate effectively

Ability to organize tasks

Ability to exercise good judgment

Ability to read and understand maps

Ability to work well with students

You MUST have a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Driving record must be free of tickets and accidents.

Ability to reach above and below the waist

Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects

Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion

Ability to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, climb, and crawl

Ability to lift/carry supplies weighing 50 lbs. or more

Ability to drive up to eighty percent (80%) of workday

This position's salary is determined by the collective bargaining plan for Support Staff employees. The starting salary for this position is $21.75/hour. After the completion of the 90-day probationary period, this position is eligible for a raise to bring the salary to $22.25/hour.
