YOUR APPLICATION IS STILL BEING CONSIDERED.** Performs skilled mechanical repairs and maintenance to motors, transmissions, brakes, cooling and electrical systems on equipment and automotive vehicles. The duties include engine overhaul, transmission repairs and overhaul, and clutch replacement to both gas and diesel trucks. Diagnose and make repairs to electrical systems and hydraulic systems to ensure proper and safe operations of dump trucks, pick-up trucks, cars and equipment. Performs electrical and acetylene welding to make repairs and/or modify parts on vehicles and equipment. Performs service calls at field work sites as needed. Works during emergency and inclement weather operations, may include being available for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts. Responsible for shop safety and cleaning of automotive shop and immediate work area, to include all surrounding areas of shop responsibility; ensures that all hazardous waste and materials are properly stored and/or disposed as per DHEC regulations. Ensures containers are properly labeled. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

One and one-half (1.5) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly-related experience. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position. The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulate objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. This position requires working in a large garage setting and may perform duties in an uncomfortable position for long periods of time. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
