CDL Class A OTR Driver - Equipment & Flatbed Hauling

Position Overview Morris-Shea Bridge Company is seeking experienced Class A CDL Over-the-Road Drivers to transport construction equipment and materials between project sites throughout the Southeast and other regions as required. Drivers operate late-model tractor-trailers and are responsible for hauling flatbed freight, construction materials, and specialized equipment while maintaining strict compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate Class A tractor-trailer combinations in interstate commerce
  • Transport construction equipment and materials between company yards and job sites
  • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections daily
  • Properly secure loads using chains, binders, straps, and edge protection
  • Assist with loading and unloading equipment when required
  • Comply with all DOT regulations including Hours of Service and ELD requirements
  • Maintain accurate ELD logs, inspection reports, and shipping documentation
  • Coordinate with dispatch regarding route planning, permits, and escort requirements for oversize loads
  • Maintain safe driving practices in construction zones and job-site environments
  • Immediately report mechanical issues, safety concerns, or incidents
  • Maintain clean and professional equipment and appearance

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Class A CDL
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Current DOT Medical Certificate
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and Clearinghouse query
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight when required
  • Ability to safely secure loads and operate in construction environments

Preferred Experience

  • 2+ years CDL driving experience
  • Experience hauling flatbed or heavy equipment
  • Familiarity with cargo securement practices (chains, binders, straps)
  • Experience operating under oversize/overweight permits
  • Ability to operate manual transmission trucks

Work Schedule

  • Over-the-road travel required
  • Multiple days away from home depending on project demands
  • Extended hours possible based on workload and mobilization schedules
